Template:EngvarB/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:EngvarB It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
This template is used on approximately 106,000 pages. To avoid major disruption and server load, any changes should be tested in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. The tested changes can be added to this page in a single edit. Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them. |
Please note that {{EngvarB}} is now independent of any British English templating. It has its own categorisation, also independent of British (or indeed any other) English-variant categorisation. An article tagged with one of the more-specific English-dialect templates should not be changed to {{EngvarB}} if the article is no longer a stub, or unless a talk-page discussion concludes with consensus to do so. |
Usage
This maintenance template adds articles to the hidden category Category:EngvarB to denote articles that have non-specific spelling that cannot be identified as American English or Canadian English spelling. This is a spelling marker indicative of variants only from the viewpoint of the dictionary incorporated into ENGVAR script. The template and its use do not imply any statement, endorsement or otherwise of the code of English used in the tagged article. Please refer to the author if there is disagreement about words included in the dictionary.
This is a dated template. After an article has been initially tagged, and bearing in mind article evolution, a periodic script or bot runs clean up spellings, correcting any new introductions since its last visit, and updating the visit date on the {{EngvarB}} template.
This is not a temporary "cleanup" request template. Therefore, do not remove the template without valid reason, such as a determination the article should use a different language variant.
