Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Crun (aka Crime Doesn't Pay — Income Tax) is an episode from The Goon Show, although it was announced as 'Crime does not pay income tax'. It is the sixteenth show in the fourth series. The show was recorded at 9pm on Sunday 10 January 1954 The recording was made at Aeolian I, 135–137 New Bond Street, London.

The first British public broadcast was on the Home Service on Friday 15 January 1954 at 9.45pm (except Northern Ireland). It reached a peak listenership of 1.9m.

The first repeat was aired on the Home Service the next day, Saturday 16 January 1954, and achieved a listenership of 1.1m.

No known, publically available, recording is known to exist as of 10 November 2024.

Story

The powerful drama, Crime Doesn't Pay… Income Tax!, relates to the stange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Crun. In the year 1953, a fearsome crimewave of attacks by a mysterious fiend in human shape known as The Clanger. Fearless Harry Secombe is summoned to see Mr Crun at Fred's Nosh and Wash Club in the changing room of Hymie's Wrestling Gym, and hears the tragic story of what happened when Crun was engaged in a sinister scientific experiment… transforming him into Dr Jekyll Bluebottle (so named to fit in with the book).
