The Goons Hit Wales is a special episode from The Goon Show. It is a special show in the sixth series, appearing between The Treasure in the Lake (ep. 24) and The Treasure of Loch Lomond (ep. 25).

The recording session (TLO 98662) took place Sunday 26 February 1956, 9.45pm. at The Camden Theatre, Camden Town, London.

The first Light Programme broadcast was four days later on Thursday, at 9pm 1 March 1956 (St David's Day), its ratings were 3.8 million.

Show Notes

The musician's strike was resolved, and Bruce Campbell led the orchestra for the recording of The Treasure in the Lake, which was taped along with The Goons Comment on Wales for the St David's Day show; this was broadcast under the revised title The Goons Hit Wales in A Celebration of St David's Day from the Sophia Gardens Pavilion, Cardiff.

There was no music in this Goons special.

Technical

Originally recorded on TLO 72138 (15 ips ¼" tape recorded at Broadcasting House).

This tape no longer exists, and a domestic tape recording of the original transmission was used for the version of the show found on The Goon Show Compendium Vol 4.{[1]
