The Stolen Postman is an episode from The Goon Show. It is the eleventh show in the eighth series.
A pre-recording session (TLO 43427A) took place Sunday 8 December 1957, 5pm. at The Camden Theatre, Camden Town, London. The recording (TLO 43427) for transmission was created later that same Sunday evening, also at The Camden, at 9pm.
The first Home Service broadcast was the next day, Monday, at 8.30pm 9 December 1957, its ratings were 1.5 million. The show was repeated the following Thursday, 12 December 1958 at 9pm on the Light Programme to 2.6 million listeners.
Transcription Service Synopsis
The birthday celebrations of the Sultan of Dhurtistan have regretfully to be postponed as no volunteer victim is available for his annual exploding ceremony. Moriarty and Grytpype-Thynne however. as usual, discover in postman Neddie Seagoon a perfect ‘charley’. How he eventually reaches the Sultan's harem boxed up in a crate, and what happens there, is unfolded in this episode of the Goon Show.

Technical
Originally recorded on TLO 43427 (15 ips ¼" tape recorded at Broadcasting House).
The TLO 43427 master tape no longer exists, and the version of the show included on The Goon Show Compendium Vol 7 was compiled from the TGS disc, the POTG master tape and a domestic recording of the original transmission .[1]
Show Notes
Spike did not take a credit on the The Stolen Postman although sharing a credit on the script, the broadcast was attributed solely to Larry Stephens.
