Pre-recording: Wednesday 6 January 1960, 4.15pm, Aeolian Hall Studio 2 (TLO & C/DLO 5386) and then Sunday 10 January 1960, 4pm, The Camden Theatre (DLO 5454/A).
The show for transmission was recorded at 8pm on Sunday 10 January 1960. The recording took place at the Camden Theatre, Camden Town, London.
The first British public broadcast was on the Home Service on Tuesday 14 January 1960 at 7.30pm. It reached a peak listenership of 0.7m.
The show's first repeat was the following Tuesday at 8pm, Tuesday 19 January 1960, on the Light Programme. It was listened to by 1.9 million.
Transcription Service Synopsis
The time: 1901 - year of gaiety and romance! At his ancestral home, Robin's Post, Lord Seagoon is holding a masked ball. But this is no ordinary ball - in fact it's made of solid gold and weighs (excluding the mask) fourteen carrots, three turnips and a mango! To what depths Moriarty will sink to secure this treasure and kidnap the guests at Robin's Post is disclosed in this edition of The Goon Show. (The programme includes our old friends Banerjee and Lalkaka).
