15 ips ¼-inch tape recorded on [[w:Agfa-Gevaert|Agfa FR]] stock by BBC Transcription Recording Unit (as of 2014) at [[w:Maida Vale Studios|St. Hilda's, Maida Vale]]. The recording room (or 'Channel') is identified by the prefix , viz. T1, T2 etc, and each channel had its own tape log with tape numbers in numerical sequence without reference to other channels. Many different types of tape stock were used at this time (1958), denoted by different codes: MM for [[w:3M|Scotch]] I I I acetate, 50 for [[w:EMI|EMI]] H50, and 77 for EMI H77. The latter becoming the standard Transcription Service tape stock for mono recordings until around 1972.

BBC Transcription Disc LP Pick of The Goons: Scradje / Rommel's Treasure

At the time of The Goon Show the BBC had several ways of recording, storing and classifying their recordings. Listed below are the types of tapes used to record and store The Goon Show.

TLO

The TLO designated recordings were recorded on 15 ips (inches per second) ¼" (quarter inch) magnetic audiotape recorded at Broadcasting House.

TBU

Same technical standard as TLO but recorded at Bush House.

TNC

Same technical standard as TLO but recorded in Newcastle.

T

BBC Sound Archives prefix for 15 ips ¼" tape.

TGS

Original BBC Transcription Services issue, usually around 29 mins 30 secs duration, issued on 16" coarse-groove disk (1-30), 10" LP (18-66), or 12" LP (67-108).
