A horse-drawn Zeppelin (the horse was still asleep in the barn... it was early when the photo was taken)

For the first time the real story behind the invention of the aeroplane is told. Gone are the days of the horse-drawn Zeppelin. The problems confronting the daring inventor of the fiendish heavier-than-air machine seem insuperable. Will he, for instance, find anyone with the skill and foresight to invent an aerodrome! Listen to this gripping tale of the battle between man and the elements. We feel sure you will be on the side of the elements every time.

Music

Technical

Originally recorded on TLO 20041 (15 ips ¼" tape recorded at Broadcasting House).

The TLO 20041 master tape no longer exists, and the version of the show included on The Goon Show Compendium Vol 6 was compiled from the TGS disc, the POTG master tape and a domestic recording of the original transmission.[1]

Note

The show was partly inspired by the successful 1950 stage play and 1954 film Seagulls Over Sorrento, which featured a role for the orchestra's trombonist George Chisholm and references to radio actress Gladys Young.
